Silk lamination on both sides gives a smooth matte face that resists scratches and water. It is the default, the more durable of the two in a rack that gets picked over all day, and the better base for foil and spot UV.
Gloss UV lamination on both sides gives a high-shine face that pushes photography and saturated color harder. The right pick when the card is carried by an image rather than by type.
The standard rack card is 4 inches by 9 inches, and that is not an arbitrary number: it is the size that fits a standard brochure rack pocket and a business envelope. Unless you have a specific reason to deviate, this is the one. Standard 4" x 9" and die-cut shapes are priced on this page. Custom sizes are quoted.
102mm x 229mm. Fits standard brochure racks, counter displays, and a #10 envelope, which is why it became the standard in the first place.
Choose this size →Wider, shorter, or square, for a display you already own or a rack that is not a standard fixture.
Request a size →Standard or laser die cutting, plus rounded corners at 3mm, 6mm, or 9mm so the card stands out in a row of rectangles.

| Finish | Price | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Foil (flat) | From +$48 | Metallic accents — gold, silver, copper, and 38 foil colors in all — that catch the light. |
| Spot-UV (flat gloss) | From +$48 | A high-gloss layer over matte — contrast you see as the piece turns. |
| Die-cut (custom shape) | From +$32 | A custom outline or rounded corners so the piece is not just another rectangle. |
| Emboss / deboss | +$48 | Pressed relief that adds dimension without ink. |

Laminated both sides, tear and water resistant, so the last card in the rack looks like the first one.
“I cannot thank this company enough! My business cards are absolutely fabulous and I have received so many compliments on them. The pictures will not do them justice. I got the suede finish, 48 pt thick cards with silver foil on one side and the edges. They are so luxurious.”
See the finishes on screen. Confirm the decision in your hand. Your free sample kit lets you feel foil, spot-UV, and silk lamination on premium stock, and see how the colors really print, before you commit to a run.
A rack card has one design constraint nothing else has: only the top third shows above the pocket, so that is where the name, the hook, and the image have to live. Our custom design service handles the layout with that in mind, plus correct bleed, safe zones, and any foil or spot UV set to register properly. Already have print-ready artwork? Upload it and skip the design charge.
Nobody hands out a rack card. It sits in a rack next to eleven competitors and waits to be picked, which makes it the rare piece of marketing where the physical object does the selling entirely on its own.
In a rack pocket most of the card is hidden. Everything that earns the pick has to happen in the top three inches, which is a design problem before it is a printing one.
Your card is never seen alone. It is seen beside eleven others, so the thing that gets it taken is whichever one looks least like a photocopy.
Racks get picked over, pushed back, and refilled. Lamination on both sides is why the last card out still looks like the first one in.
The same craft as our business cards: 38 foil colors, spot UV, emboss, die cut, and rounded corners. Same process, rack card size.
Every SilkCards rack card is 16pt (350gsm), laminated on both sides. The choice is not how thick it is; it is how the surface behaves under the lighting wherever your rack actually lives. Silk laminated is smooth, matte, low-glare, and the more scratch resistant of the two. Gloss UV laminated is high-shine and pushes saturated color and photography harder.
Smooth matte, low glare, more scratch resistant. The safer pick under overhead lighting, and the better base for foil and spot UV.
Maximum saturation and contrast. Strong for photography-led cards, though glare can be a factor in a brightly lit lobby.
Not sure which? Tell us where the rack sits and how it is lit, and we'll tell you which finish will read better there.
Everything in the rack is 4 by 9 and full color. The finish is the only variable left, and it is the entire difference between the card that gets taken and the eleven that do not.
Any foil in the range, from classic metallics to holographic and patterned. Foil in the top third is the single highest-impact change you can make.
See in a sample →High-gloss detail over the matte face, on the headline or the logo where it will show above the rack pocket.
See in a sample →A custom outline, or a 3mm, 6mm, or 9mm corner radius that breaks the run of hard rectangles either side of you.
See in a sample →Pressed relief that registers by touch the moment someone pulls the card out of the rack.
See in a sample →A hotel lobby, a clinic waiting room, and a trade show table each reward a different finish. We help match the card to the lighting and the traffic.
The classic rack card use. Competing directly against a wall of local attractions, which is exactly where finish decides the outcome.
02Photography-led cards where gloss earns its keep, sized to fit every standard rack in the region.
03Service and program information on a wipeable, durable card that survives a busy waiting room.
04Listing and development cards for counters and open houses, in a size that drops straight into a #10 envelope.
05Menus, events, and takeaway information on stock that shrugs off a wet counter.
06The leave-behind that fits a display stand and still reads as considered rather than as a flyer.
A plain rack card competes on whatever the copy says, which nobody reads until after they have picked it up. Foil or spot UV in the top third is the change that gets it picked up in the first place, and on a run of a thousand it is a smaller line than most people expect.
Direct answers on size, stock, finishes, durability, artwork, and production.
4 inches by 9 inches (102mm x 229mm) is the standard, and it is what the pricing on this page covers. At 300 DPI that is a 1,200 x 2,700 pixel artwork area. The size exists because it fits a standard brochure rack pocket and a #10 business envelope, so a card that deviates from it may not sit properly in the racks you are trying to get into. Custom sizes are available and quoted on request.
16pt (350gsm) stock, laminated on both sides. You choose the lamination: silk gives a smooth matte face that is more scratch resistant, and gloss UV gives a high-shine face that pushes color saturation. Both are the same premium weight, so the choice is how the card reads under light, not how thick it is.
It depends on where the rack sits. Silk is the safer default: it is low glare and more scratch resistant, which matters in a rack that is picked over constantly, and it is the better base if you are adding foil or spot UV. Gloss is stronger when the card is carried by photography and the lighting is controlled. If you tell us where the rack lives and how it is lit, we will tell you which will read better.
Yes. The front prints full color and full bleed, and you choose the back when you build; a full-color back is added to the base price. Both sides are laminated. Most rack cards use the front for the hook and the image and the back for detail, hours, a map, or contact information.
That is the point of the construction. 16pt stock laminated on both sides is tear resistant and water resistant, so the cards survive being picked over, pushed back, and refilled for weeks without the corners softening or the surface scuffing. Rounded corners are worth considering if the rack is high traffic, since square corners are what dog-ear first.
Yes. Foil stamping is available in any color from our full range of 38 foils, covering classic metallics as well as holographic, patterned and specialty finishes. We also offer spot UV, embossing and debossing, custom die cutting in standard or laser, rounded corners at 3mm, 6mm or 9mm, PMS ink, perforation, and variable data. On a rack card the highest-return place for any of these is the top third, since that is the only part visible in the pocket.
Assume roughly the top third of the card is all anyone sees before they decide. Put the name, the single strongest image, and the reason to pick it up in that band, and treat everything below as content for after it is in someone's hand. It is the most common rack card mistake: a beautiful layout with the key message sitting halfway down, hidden behind the pocket.
Rack cards start at 100 pieces, which suits a single location or a trial run, and quantities run through 200, 300, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, 4,000 and 5,000, with custom quantities available. Because you order directly from SilkCards, the price you see is the real price rather than a reseller markup.
Standard production time is 6 working days. That is an estimate, and premium add-ons such as foil or a custom die can extend it, so tell us your deadline at order time. For files: supply print-ready artwork at 300 DPI or higher in CMYK with 1/8 inch bleed on all sides, which makes the final artwork size 4.125 inches by 9.125 inches. Keep important text inside the safe zone away from the trim. We accept .AI, .EPS, .PDF, .PSD, .TIFF and .JPG, and vector files (.AI, .EPS) are always suggested for the best print quality. We print CMYK 4-color process at 200 LPI.
Screens show color in light (RGB); print reproduces it in ink (CMYK), so some shift is normal, which is exactly why we recommend confirming before a full run. Order a free sample kit to see how our stock and finishes reproduce color, and request a proof of your artwork before production so there are no surprises. Building files in CMYK gives the most predictable result.
Yes. Perforation adds a tear-off section at the base of the card for a coupon, a voucher, or a reply stub, which also gives you a way to measure whether a particular rack is actually working. Pair it with variable data if you want a different code per location.
Choose the finish, add the detail, and see your price as you build, then order the card your rack deserves.
